Bill has had a distinguished 38-year career in the investment industry involving the management of global asset allocation, global currency, and US fixed income portfolios. He has also managed a macro multi-strategy hedge fund and was responsible for one of the largest buy-side investment research organizations. Bill is a recognized leader in the OCIO business.
Most recently, Bill was a part of the Columbia Threadneedle Investments leadership team where he was global Co-head of the OCIO and Fiduciary Management businesses. Prior to taking on the Global OCIO role, he was Global Head of Investment Solutions and US OCIO, an investment capability that eventually grew to $100 billion of AUM. As head of Global Investment Solutions, Bill was responsible for a group that built custom portfolios across a global client base. During that time, Bill also had responsibility for overseeing US Institutional sales. Prior to his role running Global Investment Solutions, Bill was Head of Columbia’s alternative investments business.
Bill’s career has been equally divided between traditional and alternative investments. Beginning in 2008, Bill was a senior member of the alternative investments team at Gottex Fund Management, a major global fund of hedge funds investment firm, where he was responsible for the multi-asset fund of hedge fund capabilities. Bill was the CEO of 2100 Capital, a multi-dimensional alternative investments firm where he oversaw both a multi-strategy hedge fund and a fund of hedge fund capability.
The majority of Bill’s career was spent at Putnam investments, from 1985-2004. In his early years at Putnam, Bill was a derivative strategist within the US fixed income group and managed large scale fixed income portfolios. While at Putnam, Bill’s team launched one of the industry’s first global asset allocation mutual funds and became an industry leader in management of institutional global asset allocation and global currency portfolios. Bill was also responsible for Putnam’s equity and credit research capability including quantitative and fundamental research. At the time, Putnam had one of the largest global research organizations in the industry.
Bill completed his PhD in finance and was a member of two major US university finance faculties.
